Business and pleasure in Bristol: spring and Easter

There’s always plenty going on in Bristol, for the business and the pleasure visitor, no matter what season. At the moment, though, there’s definitely an added expectant buzz here as the days begin to draw out. In under two weeks the clocks will go forward, which I always find is a huge kick-start to get out and about and explore, whether in a city for work or for a fun weekend.

As I write, both major political parties competing in the 2015 election have stressed in recent days the importance of the South West’s thriving economy in national recovery, with Bristol as its heartland.

Our city was also showcased last month, at a London gathering of major investors, as one of Europe’s top investment hotspots, with claims that we’re helping to create a new kind of city for the 21st century. Bristol’s “renowned creativity, innovation and independent spirit are pushing the city in a new direction and making it a crucible for new ideas”, these wealthy notables were reminded.

I wasn’t there, but all reports tell me the biggest praise and boost for Bristol came from the lips of Leo Johnson, Boris’s younger sibling, who listed numerous reasons why Bristol is “in the vanguard of change”. Apparently he lavished praise on Bristol as leading the transformation of cities. “There is a unique culture in Bristol – there is something in its DNA – that makes it think differently in tackling critical issues such as energy, transport and food.” Leo also singled-out Bristol for its pioneering stance in recycling, its backing of fair trade – and its ability to have fun.

Well, the Johnsons, if anyone, understand how to have fun..!

Seriously, though, Bristol is the south west’s hotspot for pioneering businesses and our short-stay lets are perfectly positioned to access them if you’re in the city, whether on business or, perhaps, job hunting. For example, Delvin House in Westbury-on-Trym is very close to Hewlett Packard (HP), Rolls Royce and the showcase hospital at Southmead.

University open days
As we approach university open-day season, we’re pleased to welcome many families from which teenagers are considering UWE Bristol (the two principal sites are each a five-minute drive away) or the University of Bristol (a 10- to 15- minute drive depending on which site you are visiting).

Visit Bristol for Easter – there’s so much going on!
Take advantage of the long Easter break and explore Bristol with Delvin House as your base.
There’s too much going on to mention here, but activities include the ‘Easter Egg-stravaganza’ at Bristol Aquarium (five miles away, on bus routes) from 28 Mar 2015 to 12 Apr 2015. Also animal-related there’s the Giant Duck Hunt at Slimbridge (half an hour’s drive) at Slimbridge – a wetland reserve managed by the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust in Gloucestershire, half way between Bristol and Gloucester on the estuary of the River Severn. Or go to Wild Place Project (2.5 miles) over the Easter weekend and the kids can collect their own special treat while making friends with endangered species and splashing through the barefoot trail! Through the Easter holidays Wild Place also has archery lessons in the Tower Meadow.

For shoppers and their kids, there’s 30 lions to find, decorated by local school children, installed in shop windows around Bristol Shopping Quarter (Cabot Circus) – Bristol’s newest retail therapy scene, in the centre of town (five miles distant). Children are invited to collect the lions’ names and join craft workshops on Saturdays 28th March, 4th April and 11th April.

For more reasons to visit Bristol I suggest you consult the Visit Bristol website.

We look forward to welcoming you to Bristol, whatever your reasons to visit.
